DIY- Pom-Pom Décor by Martha Stewart

I saw these Pom-Poms listed on Ms. Stewart’s website and thought they would be worth trying out since they are cute, cheap, and not at all cheesy. They remind me of paper lanterns and would make a good substitute for them if you are looking to save money.

To make the hanging pom-poms, you’ll need tissue paper (8 sheets per hanging Pom-pom, 4 sheets per napkin pom-pom), monofilament and 24-gauge cloth-covered floral wire
I substituted colored ribbon for monofilament since I had it on hand and it accented the tissue paper color very nicely.

Hanging Pom-Poms.
1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue (a smaller size works fine).
2. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. Loop monofilament wire or ribbon around floral wire and tie to secure.
3. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.
4. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

Napkin Rings
With just a few changes, follow the same steps as the hanging pom-poms.
1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds.
2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, slip over center of tissue, and twist to secure. Trim ends of tissue.
3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.
4. Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure. For ribbon, simply tie ribbon around napkin so that it is secure but does not bunch and misshape the finished fold.

Overall, it took less than 10 minutes to make the pom-pom hang, and even less time to make the napkin ring. To make a total of 10 pom-pom hangs and 10 napkin rings, the cost would be around $20…not bad for a good dose of pretty. Just organize a favor and pom-pom craft night with your bridesmaids or girlfriends, and you’ll have lovely and tastful eyecandy for your event without blasting a hole in your budget. These are great for wedding, bridal shower, bachelorette party, or girls’ night celebrations.
