anemones

Instantly my new favorite flowers. White Anemones have beautiful soft petals with a great contrast of the black center. I will definitely incorporate these in my 1940′s glam vowel renewal!

Flowers, flowers and flowers

I did not use a lot of flowers for my wedding. Mostly because of budget but also due to ignorance. I was not aware of the impact they make on an event (don’t blame me, I was 23). After watching this new show on TLC, Flowers Uncut with Jeff Leatham, I am in awe. The things this man does from designing to arranging a space is beyond amazing. While his hefty price tag is something I can not fathom at this point, there is certainly a lot of inspiration to be drawn from the work he does.

Posted on May 27th, 2009 by LG  |  No Comments »

If you are using a florists for your wedding, they can be as in involved as you choose. You may just want a professional touch for your bouquets or, depending on your budget, you may want to go large and incorporate a florist’s designs throughout your event. We suggest checking out Petal Pushers to draw some inspiration and see how flowers can really make a visual impact for the wedding.

If you are going to hire a florist, here are some tips to help save a few dollars:

  • Ask about renting vases instead of purchasing.
  • Make arrangements that can double for the ceremony and reception.
  • Use smaller bouquets for the bridesmaids.
  • Do your research on flowers that are in season in time for your wedding.

The Right Bouquet For You

Selecting the bridal bouquet the suits you best is more than putting together all of the flowers you love. A big factor in choosing the design of the bouquet comes from constructing one that is flattering to you.

Visions of Silk has some helpful suggestion:

Perhaps the most important thing to consider though is choosing the right style of bouquet for your body shape…

1. Short ladies:
I recommend that short ladies go for a large teardrop or sheath bouquet, as they need to add height. These two types of bouquets give the illusion of length, were as a posy would make you look more compact and shorten you even more.

2. Tall Ladies:
I recommend that tall ladies go for a large posy or a medium teardrop bouquet. A large posy will draw the eye down and give people a focal point so that they won’t be focusing on your height. A medium teardrop will also draw the eye down so that your height looks a little more even.

3. Large Ladies:
I recommend that large ladies get a large bouquet. A small bouquet will exaggerate your width, and make you seem larger than you really are. Use a large bouquet, which will make you seem much slimmer.

Pomander Decor

Pomanders are cute and practical for flower girls of varying ages. These can be decorated in so many ways and incorporate little trinkets that are special to her. If you really like the clean look of pomanders, consider using them as chair adornments for the ceremony as well.

DIY it and pick up the following from your local craft store:

  • Styrofoam ball – Pick the size that suits your flower girl best. 4-5″ is common.
  • Hot glue gun
  • About 50 flowers. Make yours unique and use flowers of different colors and sizes or go monochromatic with one color that is not being used a lot throughout your event.
  • Ribbon, pearls or beaded string for the handle
  • Flat push pins

Get started:

  • Soak the foam in water
  • Trim your flower stems leaving about 1-inch
  • Making a loop with your string, be sure it is long enough to comfortable wrap around your flower girls’ wrist. Use your push pins to secure the string on the ball.
  • Think of a pattern you would like and place the larger flowers on the ball first.
  • Dab a little hot glue on the stem of each flower and insert the stem into the styrofoam.
  • Be sure to cover the push pins with flowers so the string looks seamless.
  • Add a little sparkle to the pomanders by decorating the center of flowers with gems or pearls.
