Water Pearl Centerpieces

Centerpieces are a major topic for brides-to-be. They are the impact statement of the reception and help create the feeling for your event. Using water pearls and silk flowers, twigs or candles in your centerpieces is a simple DIY project that can create the same dramatic impact with far less damage to your bank account.

I know many wedding professionals will tell you incorporating silk flowers instead of real flowers is a serious faux pas but there are many options that have a more life-like feel and, let’s keep in mind, this is your day and your budget. Do what works best for you. If you are going to use tall vases, pairing the water pearls and silk flowers can be a beautiful combination (and it’s up so high no one will know the difference).

Ice Standard has the best price on a 2 oz. package:
Like the Mystic crystals these polymer pearls are created by simply adding water. This causes them to expand into perfect miniature spheres. Use them to add some extra color to your decorating scheme. They are available in pink, aqua, sapphire blue, black or clear. Use separately or mix colors in one vase for a stellar effect! One package will create approximately 5.75L or 1.5 gallons of hydrated water pearls.

Tall Centerpiece Tips

Tall centerpieces are gorgeous and dramatic. A popular trend is large vases with flowers, twigs or floating candles. To pull off this look for your reception you want to keep a few things in mind:

Consider thinner vases. This way guests can still see others sharing the table with them and no one will have to strain their necks or rearrange seating to hold a conversation.

Clear is best. Not only will they reflect light beautifully but it will not block off everyone’s view from what is going on on the opposite side of the table.

A place for everything. If you visualize incorporating a very full look that includes low hanging items, you may want to put the larger centerpieces on cake, gift or buffet tables.

Ostrich Feather Centerpieces

Using feathers for your centerpieces can be completely glam. Pairing an Eiffel Tower glass vase with long, ostrich feathers can create height and pack in the “wow” factor to any table setting. If you like the smaller design, use square vases from Ikea, add tea lights, crystals and decorate around the base with feathers.

If you are a DIY bride-to-be, follow these easy steps from Save On Crafts and make your own gorgeous centerpieces.

You will need the following items to get started: ostrich feathers, Eiffel tower glass vases, floralytes (standard size disposable ones fit in the Eiffel tower vases), Oasis straight handle Wedding Belle bouquet holders and centerpiece table mirrors.

Start by placing the longest feathers along the bottom edge of the floral foam in the bouquet holder.

You want to work your way around the bouquet holder bottom and place the longer feathers around the bottom or it. As you move to the top of the bouquet holder your feathers can get shorter. The bouquet holder will fit in the top of vase.

The Maestro or Eiffel tower glass vases and the fluted trumpet vases are weighted so they will hold your arrangement in place.

Make your feather arrangements a few days before the event so the feathers have time to relax and get the proper shape.

The day of the event place your floralytes in the vase (bouquet holder fits in the top). Fill the vase with crystal fibers or Colorfill vase filler to help the light illuminate it. You can also use a vase light to illuminate it from the bottom up. Place a floralight in the feathers themselves for an extra accent light.

You will need 15-30 ostrich feathers per arrangement. 40 if you want it extra full. The longest feathers should be plumes not spades. Spades are shorter with a thicker center quill. You want the side feathers to flow downward.

Quickie – another candle centerpiece

Stumbled on this and wanted to share. These beauties fall in line with the candle centerpieces we posted previously and have such a zen-like quality to them. I am in love with these and I am looking for a reason to incorporate them in any future event:
