Photographer Spolight- Andre Niesing

Posted on January 16th, 2009 by nisha  |  No Comments »

I first stumbled upon the work of Andre Niesing while researching eco-friendly wedding venues.  Strange, I know.  The blog I came across featured some the most vibrant and fun photos of an out-door wedding…so much so that I had to redirect my research efforts.  As you can tell from the samples he so graciously provided, Andre has a unique talent for capturing the heart and essence of a moment. Whether in black and white, muted sepia, or full color, all of these images seem to entice the eye with a softly romantic yet luminous, slightly edgy and playful vivacity. Is it any wonder why we are so excited to share his work with all of you?

I absolutely love this non-traditional wedding party photo. They look like they are ready to take on the world!

Andre is based in Newport Beach, CA, but his shooting ranges across the entire globe. As with most photographers, he shoots more than just weddings, so if you like what you’ve seen here, check out the cutie and gorgeous video below. Also, visit his website and his blog for further examples of his work or to contact Andre to book his talent for your own special event.

Photographer Spotlight- Kelly Cathey

Posted on November 21st, 2008 by nisha  |  1 Comment »

We are instituting a new segment at Showers Blog which highlights a specific photographer from a particular area whose work is both aesthetically appealing and professionally innovative. If you are interested in a particular area of focus or photographer, feel free to write to us and make a suggestion. Otherwise, enjoy the images and hopefully they will generate some ideas for your own photo shoot.

Our first segment takes us to Louisiana and the work of Kelly Cathey. She was first brought to our attention via a co-worker who used her for her engagement photos. The session was so fun and non-cheesy that the photos came out absolutely natural and beautiful. She does engagement, bridal, wedding, maternity, baby, and family portraits, and each is as unique as the subject she captures. Take a look at some of her work, and if you’re interested, drop by her website. The samples below are just the tip of the iceberg.

Hiring A Photographer

Posted on November 6th, 2008 by LG  |  No Comments »

We found these questions on the About.com website and they are very useful when it comes time to hire your photographer. First, sit down with your groom-to-be and figure out what shots you absolutely must have, the style you are looking for, what you want to convey in your pictures and then proceed with interviewing:

  1. What’s your primary style? Posed and formal, relaxed, photojournalistic, creative, artistic, candid, traditional?
  2. Do you shoot in color or black and white? Or both? Do you shoot in a digital format that can create both color and b/w versions of the same picture?
  3. What kind of input can we have on the direction of the shots? Can we give you a shot list to work from?
  4. Are you the wedding photographer who will actually take our pictures? If not, can we meet the person who will be?
  5. Can we meet any assistants who will also be our taking pictures?
  6. How many times have you worked specifically as a wedding photographer? How many were similar to the size and formality of our wedding?
  7. How many other events will you also photograph that weekend?
  8. What kind of equipment will you bring with you? How intrusive will lighting, tripods, other equipment or assistants be?
  9. Do you develop your own film?
  10. Can we buy the negatives from you?

Photographer Spotlight- Bebb Studios

I love Twitter for so many reasons. The main one is the ability to check out other creative websites. Bebb Studios is no exception. The attention to detail in their photos is amazing and the way they draw you into the moment is unrivaled. The Bebbs are, by far, some of the best photographers I have seen.

A great idea for your weddings are to get pictures of the bridal party in rare and humorous moments. These photos will help remind you of the joy that surrounded your event.
